I’ve been writing about badasses long enough to know that it’s never really a good idea to disrespect super-ripped dudes named Rampage, but as far as I’m concerned, B. A. Baracus will always be synonymous with one man—Mr. T. The second-youngest of twelve kids, T spent most of his youth living a hard life on the South Side of Chicago. His single mother somehow provided for her family on a salary that could probably best be described as “laughable,” and the family often had to go without food. As an adult, Mr. T played football, and even tried out for the Green Bay Packers, but after he blew his knee out during tryouts he joined the Army and served as a military policeman for a while. After serving his country, T became a nightclub bouncer, and was so hardcore that he won NBC’s reality TV contest “The World’s Toughest Bouncer.” Deciding that soldier, football player, and bouncer were all jobs that didn’t provide him enough excitement during his daily life, he turned to the carefree life of a bodyguard instead. T ended up serving as a bodyguard to Muhammad Ali, Steve McQueen, and Joe Frazier—three super-hardcore dudes who could take care of themselves in most situations, though it never hurts to have a giant ass-wrecking psycho like Mr. T watching your back. Not even lymphoma could take this guy down—in 2004, he beat cancer, probably through a daily regimen that involved standing in front of the mirror and directly threatening his own lymph nodes.
